Introduction:
Fontanafredda Barbera D’Alba is a rich, intense wine that showcases the best of Piedmont’s terroir. Known for its harmonious balance of fruit and spice, this Barbera is perfect for pairing with hearty dishes and offers aging potential for those who prefer a more complex profile over time.
Tasting Notes:
The wine has a deep ruby-red color, transitioning to garnet-red with age. Its bouquet is an expressive mix of floral and fruity aromas, with subtle overtones of wood, spices, and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is full, persistent, dry, and velvety, with a smooth finish. While it is enjoyable early, it gains further complexity with additional bottle aging.
Vinification and Aging:
- Fermentation: Traditional fermentation in stainless steel tanks using the floating cap method, with pump-over for 7-8 days at a temperature of 28-30°C.
- Malolactic Fermentation: Completed by November.
- Aging: After fermentation, the wine is aged for about a year. Part of it matures in large French and Slavonian oak casks, while the rest is stored in smaller French and American oak barrels. The two parts are then blended prior to bottling.
Terroir:
The grapes are grown on the white soils of the Langhe region, known for its historical and distinctive features that shape the wine’s rich character. The climate and soil contribute to the wine’s profound and harmonious flavor, evoking mature red fruits.

This wine pairs well with tasty first courses, meat dishes, and a variety of cheeses, making it a versatile choice for many meals.
